All secondary schools to receive organ donation education pack

A popular education pack about organ donation has been republished and copies are being distributed to every secondary school across Scotland from this week.

The pack was launched at Holy Cross High School by Scottish Government Health Secretary Nicola Sturgeon and Lily Turley, a mother whose son Daryl died in a road accident at the age of 13; his donated organs helped save the lives of five other people.

The pack was first issued in 2003 and revised in 2010. A recent independent evaluation showed that 98 per cent of teachers who have used the pack say it is relevant and engaging for students, while 88 per cent of pupils recognised the importance of organ donation and would recommend its continued use in schools.
